Still Finding Out Things

It never ceases to amaze me that I am still able to discover new information about my immediate ancestors. I found a photocopy of Joseph Oligny’s World War I draft registration card at Ancestry.com. That was cool to look at, but very hard to read. I don’t think it would make much sense to upload it since it is barely legible.

There is one new mystery that I need to clear up and I’m going to start that process today. According to the death notice for Philorum Oligny in the Lowell Sun newspaper, he was born in Malone, NY to John and Philomene Oligny. I only knew that he was born in 1858 and did not know the location. The parents names are also different, but I know this is him based on other info in the death notice. I think that the names listed were the Anglicized version. However, today I am going to be calling the town clerk in Malone to either get the info over the phone or send money for a copy of the birth certificate.

One last item of note. I found out that Dewey Oligny, Joseph’s son with Leonida, had a son born in 1961 in Lowell, MA. I’m going out on a limb and sending a letter to a Joseph D. Oligny who lives in Lowell today to see if he is related at all to my line. So, I’ve got some stuff brewing. I can’t wait to see where this all goes. Of to work.

Cheerio,
Steve
