If You Want Something Done…

I was patiently waiting for some return mail from the Town Clerk in Lowell, MA. It came while I have been gone. My lovely wife opened it up only to find that my check had been returned because it was not for the correct amount.

In Massachusetts, it costs $5 per copy for a death certificate. Turns out the clerk, or whoever did the research, did not find my great-great-grandmother’s certificate, but did find the one for Philorum Oligny. Therefore, I had tried to pay too much. So, I have nothing to show for my patience.

I have an idea about why they didn’t find Marie-Asilda Bessette. They probably looked for Bessette (her maiden name) and not under Oligny – which is what it is under. I have seen her obituary in the Lowell newspaper, so I know they have it. I just couldn’t believe how they couldn’t think outside the box to look for the record.

Rather than go thru it again with them, I’m just going to go there in person in March since I will be in Boston for a week. There’s something very satisfying about finding the records yourself anyhow.

I’ll be heading to Chicopee and Holyoke on Tuesday and should get some good information before heading home. Look for some updates either late on Tuesday or on Wednesday.

Kickoff for the Big Game is around 2 hours from now – go Pats!!
